SHAWtrack and SHAWhire was a SHAWthing for John Byrne & Sons Ltd

Nottinghamshire based SHAWtrack Services Ltd, leading designers and manufacturers of bespoke plant transportation vehicles, has recently concluded an interesting deal with Surrey based, John Byrne & Sons Ltd, involving both SHAwtrack and the hire arm of the business, SHAWhire.

Father and Son operation, John Byrne & Sons Ltd, run a contract haulage business.  The company recently won a permanent contract with Winners Plant Hire, also located in Surrey, to deliver heavy machinery up to 18t.  The Byrne’s made the decision to invest in a new truck with a significantly larger payload.

After trawling around numerous other manufacturers the Byrne’s secured the services of SHAWtrack and after sitting down with SHAWtrack’s sales director, Jeff Wright, together they specified exactly the vehicle they were after.

SHAWtrack had a 2002 Scania R124L 420 in stock.  The vehicle was originally a twin steer 3-axle tractor unit; SHAWtrack converted the unit from a 6x2 to an 8x2 rigid.  The vehicle was lengthened and fitted with an extra rear axle and the second steer axle repositioned to Scanias specification. The vehicle has a substantial 19t payload – which is exactly what the Byrne’s required.

SHAWtrack also installed a new low profile body with a double cranked beavertail, electro hydraulic full width ramps, with boom support, LED side markers and a chassis mounted toolbox.  Finally, the all-new Scania was finished in Winners livery.

The Byrne’s had sold their old Truck, so whilst the work was carried out on the new vehicle, SHAWhire fixed up the Byrne’s with a 32t beavertail, also a Scania, so that the company could fulfil their obligation to Winners Plant Hire.

The Byrne’s were thrilled with their new vehicle.  “SHAWtrack knew what they were talking about,” said John Byrne Snr “There was a vehicle in stock for us to see and we were able to examine the modification of the vehicle at various stages of construction.  What SHAWtrack said they could do – they did and the quality of build is second to none.  SHAWhire also lent us a vehicle to use FOC, while the new one was under construction – now that’s an example of excellent customer service for you.”

John Byrne Jnr added, “I drive the truck, and it’s a pleasure!  It can do work that other wagons can’t and it can get into places that are difficult to access.”

Jeff Wright, SHAWtrack sales director said, “This is a fine example of customer and manufacturer working together and applying experience from both parties to secure the correct specification.”
