26t Beavertail for Birkwood

Birkwood FLT approached us to build a 26t beavertail that was hard wearing and durable against every day use. With that in mind, we built a strong body with heavy duty, fully galvanised mesh overlay on the ramps and body. Galvanised steel benefits from a long life that is resistant to corrosion, mainly rust, caused by oxygen reacting with the steel. The low initial cost and long life make galvanizing the most versatile and economic way of protecting steel for long periods.

Concerned with previous builds from other commercial body builders, and a problem with the ramps bending, Birkwood were keen to have an input for the design of the ramps. Another problem they experience with their trucks is the steep loading angle of the ramps. We invited Ian Smith, Owner of Birkwood, into the office to discuss all of his requirements with our Production Manager, Glenn, and our Product Design Engineer, David. Ian brought along his latest truck for our team to look at, allowing us to design and build a body that would meet their needs and requests. Choosing our low loading angle body, with 2 tow sections that work sequentially with the smallest of gaps. The ramps are hydraulic, but the tow sections are spring assisted at Ian’s request.
